It’s hard to believe, but Fall is fast approaching; and every Fall, Pro Football, College Football, Baseball Playoffs and The World Series capture our imagination. I started thinking where do you go in Napa to watch a game? Here are my top picks for Best Sports Bars in Napa. My selections are based on size and quantity of televisions, bar, atmosphere and food. Click the links to go to the restaurants’ official website for more information.
Located at the Meritage Resort in South Napa, Crush Ultra Lounge gets high marks for atmosphere. This is the perfect bar for the sports fan who likes to play games while they watch their favorite team. The Lounge features a 6 lane Bowling Alley, Shuffle Board and Billiards. Expect a fun, energetic and young crowd, this is the place to be for Sunday Football in Napa. Crush Ultra Lounge also gets high marks for televisions. NFL Sunday Ticket allows patrons to watch every game on the Lounge’s multiple Plasma TVs; not to mention a 30ft projector screen over the bowling alley so you don’t miss one minute of action. The food and drinks are decent but not stellar; the menu consists of usual bar fare, burgers, wings, etc. If I had to make any complaints about The Lounge, they would be the location and decor. The Meritage Resort is located far to the South of Napa and is somewhat isolated from the rest of town; and the decor is a little too sterile and generic for my taste. 75 Bordeaux Way, Napa, California, 94558; 707.251.1900.
Compadres places high in all categories, TV size and quantity, food, bar and atmosphere. Plasma TVs are big and surround the interior of the restaurant; and the restaurant has NFL Sunday ticket, so if your from out of town you can watch your home team. Compadres is a Mexican Food Restaurant, so not surprisingly margaritas and tequila are their specialty, but they have a full bar. If you’re hungry, order the fish tacos or the chimichonga. The atmosphere is fantastic, but a little rowdier than the other bars listed. Compadres has similar drawbacks to Crush Ultra Lounge, the restaurant is somewhat isolated from the center of Napa; and the food, while well executed, is simple. 505 Lincoln Avenue, Napa, California 94558; 707.253.1111
Norman Rose is located in Downtown Napa’s West Side, a vibrant and fun location with great bars, restaurants, shopping and hotels. The atmosphere at Norman Rose is stellar – fun, young and energetic; and the food is equally as good. Norman Rose is a Gastro Pub and menu items include pub staples like fish and chips and burgers, but with a gourmet twist. Also, the bar has an extensive list of local beer, wine and cocktails. The only negative of Norma Rose is the lack of Televisions. There are only 2 plasmas in the restaurant, broadcasting mostly local and national sporting events. 1401 First Street, Napa, CA 94558; 707.258.1516.
Also, located in Downtown Napa’s West Side, Eiko’s gets high grades in food and bar. Eiko’s does not have a typical sports bar menu; and that’s because it’s a world class Japanese food restaurant first, bar and lounge second. Stand out menu items include the hamachi bon bons, healthy fries and the Ricky Ricardo on Vacation Roll. Also available are artisan cocktails like the Samurai, my personal favorite. Eiko’s is separated into 2 areas, dining room and bar/lounge area. There are a couple TVs in the dining room above the sushi bar and a couple TVs in the bar area. However, the restaurant doesn’t have the multitude of TVs like a Crush Ultra Lounge, so expect mostly local and national sporting events. The outdoor patio also has a TV and fire pit, for enjoying pleasant Napa Valley nights. If your in the mood for a subdued and relaxed experience with great food, than Eiko’s is a perfect fit. 1385 Napa Town Center, Napa, CA 94559; 707.501.4444.
If only Rutherford grill had a better TV selection, it ranks high in every other category, but only has 2 small televisions. The food is equal to the best of the restaurants listed here. The ribs are my personal favorite, followed closely by the grilled artichoke, smoked salmon appetizer and the ahi tuna salad. Also, Rutherford grill has a full bar and outstanding service; and the restaurant is always packed, which creates a high energy level. If you are looking for a great meal with a little sports sprinkled in then Rutherford Grill is the place to be; and if your staying Up Valley the location is convenient, because the restaurant is located about half way between Napa and St Helena. 1180 Rutherford Rd, Rutherford, CA 94573; 707.963.1792
