Napa is the principal city of Napa County, it is also the largest city in Napa County. Perhaps more importantly, Napa is the southern most city in Napa County, which makes for easy access to San Francisco, Tahoe and airports. While other cities in Napa County are more well know for wineries and wine. Napa is probably best know for it’s vibrant downtown area. In Downtown Napa, you will find many excellent and diverse restaurants like Basalt, ZuZu and WiKis. Also there are many wine bars and cocktail lounges. Downtown Napa is also considered the cultural center of Napa, because of the many musical venues, like Blue Note and Uptown Theatre, and museums.
 
Just East of Downtown Napa is the Oxbow Public Market. Built in 2007 by The Carlin Company, the same group that designed the Ferry Building in San Francisco, the Oxbow Market features 40,000 square feet of restaurants and shops. The open air market is a great place for lunch or meeting locals, Oxbow hosts a locals night every Tuesday. Popular eateries include Gotts, C Casa and Hog Island. Shops include Napa Valley Distillery and Napastak. Although Cities North of Napa, like Yountville and St. Helena, are more well known for their restaurants and wineries, Napa has many of its own. For fine dining, Don Giovanni's and La Toque are superb; and wineries like Laird, Luna and ElevenEleven produce amazing wines.
 
Looking for something more active than eating and drinking? Golf, tennis, hiking, kayaking are all easily accessible. Or attend a big event. Napa is known as an event town and hosts Bottle Rock, a 3 day music festival; the Fortinet Golf Tournament, a PGA Tour Event held at the Silverado Resort and Spa; and the Napa Valley Film Festival, an annual 5 day festival celebrating the cinematic arts.
